The private house architecture project is characterized by its unique response to the unconventional terrain. The site features a narrow entrance on one side, with the entire project area extending perpendicularly. In order to maximize the utilization of the inner yard space, the design necessitated a harmonious integration of the building form with the terrain contours. The plan adopts a Z-shaped layout, wherein the first floor accommodates various functional areas.
Upon entering, one is greeted by an inviting foyer, which leads to the stairs, a well-appointed powder room, and a guest bedroom that opens up to the rear garden. An office space, strategically positioned to overlook the main entrance, provides an ideal vantage point. The first floor also encompasses two storage rooms and a generously proportioned studio-like living room, boasting a fireplace, and seamlessly connected to the kitchen and dining area. This expansive studio space is adorned with movable glass doors that effortlessly transition into the main yard and pool area. The first floor is constructed using grey concrete, with the entrance facade elegantly clad in shou sugi ban wood, lending a captivating aesthetic.
Ascending to the second floor, one discovers four bedrooms. Two of these bedrooms are master suites, while the remaining two smaller rooms share a thoughtfully designed joint bathroom. Nearly every room on the second floor is equipped with a balcony and oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, affording breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. The distinctive character of the project is enhanced by the use of pink pigmented concrete, which entirely envelops the second floor.
Considering the dense neighboring structures on the western side and the predominant sun trajectory from the east, a deliberate decision was made to extend the western portion of the bedroom balcony. This design intervention not only ensures increased privacy but also creates a more welcoming atmosphere. The garden, characterized by a gentle slope, posed a design challenge that was artfully resolved by incorporating a hanging pool with a charming small waterfall, thus seamlessly integrating the landscape with the topography of the site.
