Cord Brunch&Bar

Cord Brunch & Bar seamlessly integrates brunch and bar experiences into one vibrant venue where entertainment and relaxation flourish without needing a special occasion.

Cord resides on the first floor corner of the two storey brick building, in the older residential part of Tbilisi. Main request from the owners was to create a dual atmosphere, that transforms the space from a day brunch into a night bar, meanwhile still getting the casual feeling of old Tbilisi urban life. Design Team decided to translate this into space with keeping the building’s authenticity and add all handmade original furniture and color changing lighting.

Biggest challenge was renovating the space and keeping everything as it was, interior walls and façade brick especially, that was covered in old plaster and paint. Some of the walls, floors and ceiling was so damaged, that we had to reconstruct them, while maintaining what was salvageable. After cleaning interior walls we discovered some layers of old paint and wallpapers, which we decided to keep as “something old” and authentic of the building. New walls and details that were added to the space were also left in their own form, for example, block walls that are not covered in plaster and paint.

Material Editors team designed all furniture for Cord specially, but actually making the furniture was another challenge. It had to be durable, one of a kind and had to keep the focus on the space itself. All the seatings are made from structural materials, like metal reinforcements and structural beams, that are see through and give the impression of digitalized grids. Menu tablet is a bus stop screen, that changes in the evening from brunch to cocktails. Shelving system is made in the style of scaffolding with glass horizontal shelves. Bar is covered in disco ball mirror textile, that gives a very distorted reflection and reflects lighting in an interesting manner. As we could not cut through very fragile walls, all lighting Cords are on the outside. Bar stools are made of 10x10 square tubes and recycled painted metal plates. Bathroom mirror is an infinity neon black mirror, not for faint-hearted. Custom-made wall lights that change color from daytime white to nighttime red to announce the menu change.

Very interesting and personal detail about the project is that one can’t find any of the furniture pieces in the store. Every single detail is custom-made and designed only for Cord Brunch&Bar. It’s a perfect combination of old and new, 19th century walls and digitalized metallic furniture.

In the end, the result is that Cord became the most unique spot in the city with its all original items, cosy vibe, welcoming staff, the best brunch from one of the top chefs in Georgia and unique cocktails created for Cord.
